What the guides on this site are

The guides, comparisons and jurisdiction pages on this site are general information. They are written to help you understand what incorporating involves before you commit to it, and they are reviewed by a CPA before they are published.

They are written for a general reader. They are not written for your situation. Two businesses with the same revenue can need completely different structures, and nothing published here can tell which one you are.

When information is not advice

Reading a page on this site does not make you our client and does not create a professional relationship. We give advice on a file only after an engagement letter is signed, and that advice is based on the documents and facts you give us.

If you act on something you read here without engaging us, you do so on your own judgment.

Government fees and deadlines

We publish government fees, filing deadlines and statutory references, and we check them against the official registry pages before publishing. Governments change them without notice.

Please confirm any fee or deadline against the registry’s own page before you rely on it. Where a page carries a figure, it also carries the date it was last checked.

Tax figures

Tax rates, thresholds and the examples we use to illustrate them change with every federal and provincial budget. A number that was right when a page was written may not be right when you read it. Tax outcomes depend on facts we do not know about you.

Professional corporations

Pages covering professional corporations describe the rules set by the relevant regulator. Those rules change, and they differ by profession and by province.

Before you incorporate a professional practice, please confirm the current requirements with your own college or regulator. Approval of your corporate name by a regulator is a separate step from incorporation and is not something we can guarantee.

Results

We do not guarantee a registry outcome. A corporate name can be refused by an examiner even where it passes every rule we can check. Where that happens we will prepare a fresh submission.

We link to government registries, regulators and other third-party sites. We do not control them and we are not responsible for what they publish.
